Federal and State Level grants and programs. Great, but what if your income is too high? The amount of money that the federal grants help… but they certainly don’t cover even state tuition. So then what do you do?
You can always click the button in the FAFSA to request work study but even if you are approved. Work study is a program that is subsidized by the government and will be paid directly to the student to use for any college related costs. Again, you can not earn unlimited amounts
I do recommend applying for private scholarships. Unfortunately, not every student is disciplined, and finding the right ones to go after is a key in this process. Check out my blog on best practices for private scholarships. The issue is that there is no guarantee on this money. It’s also hard to plan on money that you’re not sure you will even get!
This is great for families that make less than 180k in adjusted gross income. How do you get tax benefits if you make over that amount? EVERYONE tells parents to ask for more money for school, but knowing how and when to approach the college is the KEY to getting more money. If that worked for every family, then wouldn’t be any debt.
